The PCE price index, also known as the PCE deflator, measures the average increase in prices for all personal consumption within the United States compared to previous year. It is the preferred measure of prices for the Federal Reserve and plays a significant role in determining interest rate policy. The data for this index is collected through surveys of businesses rather than consumer-reported spending.
